Golf Scholarship NCAA DIVISION 1 at Valparaiso University

Ravi is accepted to Valparaiso University, commonly known as Valpo, a regionally accredited private university located in Valparaiso, Indiana. Ravi becomes the captain of his university's golf team. Making him the first Sikh American to captain NCAA Division 1 golf team.‍

Ravi Singh Bullied at School

Ravi’s Father is a Doctor at Rush-Copley Hospital in Aurora, Illinois and addresses the harassment that his son receives at school after the events of 1984. Where Sikh Americans faced discrimination. Dr. Pavitar Singh addresses the importance of his children growing up as Americans despite the religious discrimination.

First Turban in the United States Military

Ravi is the first Sikh to attend a military academy JROTC while also wearing a turban in the United States. Ravi received expert marksman for shooting. He was a member of the Panther Reconnaissance Unit. He was captain of the High School Golf Team and graduated with full JROTC military honors as 2nd Lieutenant. Legislation was introduced and Ronald Regan signed it into law. It was later overturned, but Ravi and his family did not give up trying. At last, an exception was made and he was allowed to graduate with full military honors by the Secretary of Defense.

Ravi Singh was born in Chicago

A first generation American, Ravi Singh was born in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois by immigrant parents. His father Dr. Pavitar Singh immigrated from Burma after the 1962 Burmese military coup d'état. He then pursued a career in medicine at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois and then eventually Rush Copley Hospital in Aurora, Illinois. His mother Rani Kaur Singh immigrated from Ranchi, India. Ravi was the first grandchild to be born in the USA from Sadar Ranbir Chowdry and Sadar Pheule Singh.
