Ravi is the first Sikh to attend a military academy JROTC while also wearing a turban in the United States. Ravi received expert marksman for shooting. He was a member of the Panther Reconnaissance Unit. He was captain of the High School Golf Team and graduated with full JROTC military honors as 2nd Lieutenant. Legislation was introduced and Ronald Regan signed it into law. It was later overturned, but Ravi and his family did not give up trying. At last, an exception was made and he was allowed to graduate with full military honors by the Secretary of Defense.
