Trump's Controversial Tweet About 9/11

Zaru, D. (2015, September 11). Donald Trump's deleted 9/11 tweet. Retrieved from https://edition.cnn.com/2015/09/11/politics/donald-trump-9-11-tweet/index.html

In this article, Zaru reports that Donald Trump appeared to have deleted from his Twitter account a controversial tweet which he had posted on September 11, 2013. The tweet was taken down at some point in 2015 because it mentioned Trump’s famous catch phrase “haters and losers” while commemorating the 9/11 tragedy in the United States. According to the author, even though it was not clear when the tweet was deleted, one thing was for sure: the Trump’s campaign team was doing damage control. Notably, the offensive tweet could have cast aspersions on Trump’s leadership ability since it suggested that all Americans affected by the 9/11 terrorist attacks were “haters and losers.” Indeed, such reckless use of language would have cost the then-aspiring presidential candidate to lose many votes. This article highlights why leaders should be very careful with their public rhetoric. Additionally, it points out the need for leaders to develop emotional intelligence, particularly, empathy.
