Gammon, J. (2017, March 6). YouGov | Social media usage has shifted post-election. Retrieved from https://today.yougov.com/find-solutions/omnibus/landing-page/social-media-usage-has-shifted-post-election/?utm_medium=referral&utm_source=tweetindex&utm_campaign=social-usage
In this article, Gammon provides an analysis of how the use of different social media platforms, particularly Facebook and Twitter, has changed among Americans since the 2016 United States Presidential Election. During the election period, many candidates utilized the social media to appeal to the youth voters. Notably, Hillary Clinton mainly relied on Facebook, whereas the Republican Party candidate, Donald Trump, preferred Twitter. In fact, Trump’s tweeting habits helped to increase his popularity among all age groups since he could just post whatever crossed his mind. His supports found him very honest and refreshing. By the same token, his detractors could not stand his presence on the social media platform. However, after the elections, 41% of American adults have modified their social media involvement. Gammon reports that about 14% of Americans no longer have much interest in checking their feeds since they find them too political and a complete waste of time.
