In this article, Julia Fair indicates that Donald Trump became the most followed world leader on Twitter in the second half of 2017. According to the author, the number of people following Donald Trump increased by more than a hundredfold when he was sworn into office as the president of the United States. Before his inauguration, Trump boasted of nearly 20.5 million followers on Twitter, making him the fifth most followed world leader. However, within 10 months into his presidential term, the president’s Twitter account has accumulated approximately 39.7 million followers on the social media platform, surpassing Pope Francis and earning him first place among world leaders with the largest audiences. However, the author indicated that the survey only included world leaders who are still active in government offices. Therefore, it excludes former U.S. president Barrack Obama’s Twitter account, which has approximately 95.6 million followers. This article is useful as it shows the social power of Donald Trump.
