On May 12th 2021, the Republicans finally ejected Liz Cheney from their leadership for repudiating former president Donald Trump's claims of election fraud. Cheney stated that Trump was a liar and dangerous, that he did not respect the democratic process. She added that the elections were over, disputing Trump's push to have the elections nullified, and that America she was not going to join Trump's crusade. She was ejected from Republican’s number 3 post. The turn of events signaled that Trump has solidified his hold over the House Republicans as he jockeys to play a major role in the 2022 congressional elections and flirts with running for president again come 2024. Cheney is allegedly planning to seek re-election next year for a fourth two-year term as the lone House member representing Wyoming, and that appears to set the stage for a clash between competing factions in a Republican Party facing a moment of reckoning over its future. There are already 6 Republicans lined up to challenge her in a state where Trump won with about 70 percent of the vote in 2020 elections. After the oust, Cheney told the press that she is willing to fight to bring the Republican party back to “fundamental principles of conservatism.” She said that we should go ahead with the truth and that she will not embrace the big lie. She also added that she will do all she can to ensure Trump does not go anywhere near the oval office again. Trump said that “Liz Cheney is a bitter, horrible human being. She has no personality or anything good having to do with politics or our country." Already McCarthy and Trump endorsed Representative Elise Stefanik to succeed Cheney as party conference chair. She will be entrusted with the role to help develop Republican positions on legislation and assists rank and file members on a number of issues.
