More Features On Twitter To Enhance User Experience And Increases Engagement

Reddy, S. (2017, March 30). Now on Twitter: 140 characters for your replies. Retrieved from https://blog.twitter.com/en_us/topics/product/2017/now-on-twitter-140-characters-for-your-replies.html

In this blog post, Reddy explains an update introduced by Twitter in 2017. According to the author, the modernized version of the social media platform allows users to enjoy 140 characters, when replying to @mentions or @usernames, without any deductions. Previously, those @usernames were counted as part of a tweet’s 140-character limit. The author indicated that the rationale of the update was to simplify conversations on the platform. For instance, when replying to a tweet, the @usernames will appear above the tweet instead, leaving more character space. Consequently, users will now read and understand conversations at ease without having to see the @usernames within the text itself. Besides, with the full 140 characters, users would have more space for participating in group discussions. Such an update was extremely useful as it enabled social brands to engage more with their followers. This piece of writing helps a researcher to understand how the Twitter platform works.
