Trump and His Followers Use Twitter To Freely Democratically Express Themselves

Turner, F. (October 16, 2017). The big picture: Trump on Twitter. Retrieved from http://www.publicbooks.org/the-big-picture-trump-on-twitter/

This article explores the use of Twitter by Trump citing that it is a social media network where it “appears to be a quintessentially democratic medium.” President Trump learnt the importance being authoritative and therefore, this has helped him to gain individualistic ideas that have been well-expressed through Twitter. The article also looks into the history of the Authoritarian theorists, “We have been left blind to the ways in which individualism can be summoned to serve authoritarian ends.” Basically, the American media system is centralized and therefore, when communicating with citizens, it is easy to express opinions and successfully reach to the desired audience. The moment Trump won the presidential elections, it made him one of the individuals that betrayed how the digital media should be used authoritatively. “Trump’s capture of the presidency has visibly betrayed the antiauthoritarian promise of digital media.” Donald Trump continues to launch attacks on the American institutions, yet he should be championing for a democratic nation.
