Trump Calls for Calm After Capitol Riots

Collins, K., & Liptak, K. (2021, January 14). Trump releases video calling for calm but doesn't mention impeachment. CNN.

This article addresses Trump’s response to the January 6 Insurrection and his second impeachment. The authors state that during a video presser that Trump did on the day he was impeached, he lacked a comprehensive legal strategy and he lacked his preferred social media channels of responding. The authors continue to say that this was near-invisibility situation for Trump at the worst moment of his presidency which is ending in tumult after some members of his party voted to impeach him. The author says that Trump released a video statement that did not mention anything about the impeachment that had occurred that same day. The video was calling for calm after the Capitol riots. Trump said “No true supporter of mine could ever endorse political violence. No true supporter of mine could ever disrespect law enforcement or our great American flag." He added that efforts to censor and cancel citizens is wrong and dangerous and instead people should listen to one another not silence one another. The author believes that Trump did not talk about the impeachment because there was no Twitter, a campaign rally and a team or Republicans ready to defend him.
