Trump Tells Iran to Never Threaten the US Again via Twitter
Sanger, D., Wong, E., Schmitt, E., & Cooper, H. (2019, May 6). New tensions with Iran threaten nuclear deal and, White House says, U.S. troops. The New York Times - Breaking News, World News & Multimedia. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/06/world/middleeast/us-iran-iraq-troops-.html
In an afternoon tweet, Trump said, “If Iran wants to fight, that will be the official end of Iran. Never threaten the United States again!” This tweet came soon after a missile landed near the US Embassy in Baghdad. The president did not specify what he considered to be a threat or a fight, but probably his definition included anything that puts American soldiers, diplomats, or private citizens at risk. Sanger et al. continue to state that about six hours later, Trump sat down with Fox News for an interview, where he expressed his views on the Iran situation. “I just don’t want them to have nuclear weapons, and they can’t be threatening us,” the president said. “I’m not somebody that wants to go into war, because war hurts economies, war kills people, most importantly.”
