Trump To Lose @POTUS Twitter Account On January 20

Al Jazeera. (2020, November21). Trump to lose @POTUS Twitter account on January 20. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2020/11/21/trump-to-lose-potus-twitter-account- after-january-20

After the October presidential elections, Trump made it clear that he was not accepting defeat. Trump took it to the social media to show his dissatisfaction with the soon completed elections, he said that his opponent Joe Biden had stolen the elections. So, he would do anything he can to stop the steal and get justice. Amid the contention, Twitter made it public that it would not stop the transfer of the official POTUS Twitter account. The author states that, by losing the @POTUS account on January 20, the president would lose one of his mass communication arsenals referring to Trump's widely known increased use of the platform. Twitter was actually planning on how the transition of the account would go as early as November 2020.

In November 2020, Twitter stated that they were already working on transition and close consultation with National Archives and Records Administration was in progress. Although @POTUS account was not as popular as his personal account @realDonaldTrump, the account had 32.8 million followers whom he could have engaged with and have his message reach more people. @realDonaldTrump account which he preferred to use in his official and unofficial communication had 88.9 million followers at this time. But what many may think of the transition is not the case since many would imagine that Biden will inherit the 32.8 million followers. However, Twitter is said that will not happen, the accounts @POTUS, @WhiteHouse, @VP, and FLOTUS, would be archived and reset to zero tweets. So, Biden and his team will pick up a clean account and start from zero.

According to the author, @POTUS account is not the only thing Trump is set to lose come January, he would lose special protections. Jack Dorsey, while in front of a Senate Judiciary Committee, had made it clear that “If an account is not a world leader any more, that particular policy goesaway.” So, @realDonaldTrump his official unofficial communication channel would lose the special protections it receives as a presidential account.

Good Karma for those who comment...
