The author starts by reporting Vijaya Gadde's general views on the use of the social media platform as an essential tool of engaging leaders and how Twitter was instrumental in the presidential elections. Vijaya Gadde is the current head of the legal, policy and trust at Twitter. In the recent past, she had been at the center of controversy due to the tough decisions she had to make. First, she was directly involved in the banning of President Donald Trump from Twitter. It was believed that Trump was inciting his followers as seen in the January 6 riots that led to the attack on the US Capitol. Apart from Trump’s case, Vijaya’s involvement in policies and decisions at Twitter had led banning of Twitter users in Nigeria, India and other countries. One major concern in her decisions is to exclude some journalists, politicians and activists. Some of these decisions are expected to have implications on the company especially with the increase in the use of social networking sites in shaping policies through the public opinion.
