Inquiry By a Democratic Prosecutor Was a Political Vendetta?

The author states that the New York attorney general's office is investigating the Trump Organization in a criminal capacity. A top prosecutor from New York stated that they are no longer investigating Trump's property on a purely civil capacity but on a criminal capacity. The top lawyer, Letitia James has been scrutinizing Mr. Trump's financial dealings way before he took office. However, Trump denied wrongdoing and said that the inquiry by a Democratic prosecutor was a political vendetta. On May 18th 2021, Mr. James said that they are now actively investigating Trump Organization in a criminal capacity. They did not talk of anything or new update that could have turned the inquiry from civil to criminal in nature. The author states that usually a civil case involves injury to individuals or other private parties such as businesses, whereas a criminal case involves damage likely to affect society at large. The author adds that because Trump does not enjoy any protection from prosecution, the latest development where he is facing criminal investigations is a significant development that could have serious repercussions for his future in politics.
