This article explains why Donald Trump’s tweets ought to be considered as presidential records. Trump’s affinity to Twitter is not really surprising. After all, it was the social media platform that helped him to get the attention of many Americans and persuade them to vote for him. However, one question that lingers in the minds of many people is: do Trump’s tweets legally represent the official presidential records? One special aspect of Trump’s tweets is that it is often difficult to discern which of his posts represent the official statements, and which ones reflect his private life. However, reports that all electronic records of the president, including his Twitter posts, are legally considered as official statements. This would imply that the president has no authority to delete his Twitter posts. Nevertheless, Johnson explains that this is not the case since the law does not prohibit him from creating and deleting posts as he wishes. This article proves that the law can have loopholes which may reduce its effectiveness on leadership issues.
