This article addresses the question, what happened when Trump was banned on social media. The authors state that since Twitter and Facebook ban, Trump has posted far less often. However, any statement he has made during that time manages to go far wide on social media platforms. before he was banned on social media, his posts with the median engagement garnered 272,000 likes and shares, but after the ban that has dropped to 36,000 likes and shared. The authors mention that despite the drop in engagement 11 of Trump's 89 statements made after the ban garnered as many like or shares as before the ban. Donald Trump can be termed as the best promoter of himself on social media. comparing two posts, the authors says that a tweet shared by Trump on October 8th 2020 received 501,000 likes and shares on both Facebook and Twitter. Then on March 21st 2021 a statement published on Trump’s website stating that his administration delivered “the most secure border in history,” and another statement criticizing Bidens administration stating that “our country is being destroyed” received 661,000 likes and shares. The article shows that despite Trump’s ban on the top social media platforms, he still has a grip of the online community.
