FriendFeed was a real-time feed aggregator created by four former Googlers, Bret Taylor, Jim Norris, Paul Buchheit, and Sanjeev Singh.
FriendFeed was created to make content on the Web more relevant and useful. It consolidated updates from social media and social networking sites, social bookmarking sites, blogs, and microblogging updates.
FriendFeed was created to provide a Gmail-like experience where people could send messages back and forth to each other quickly. Users could see new updates without hitting the refresh button like it is done on other platforms.
In 2007, FriendFeed was created by Bret Taylor, Jim Norris, Paul Buchheit, and Sanjeev Singh.
On August 10, 2009, Facebook acquired FriendFeed for $15 million in cash and $32.5 million in Facebook stock.
On April 10, 2015, Tornado, the service upon FriendFeed was built was shut down.
