WHAT THEY DO?

Hi5 is a social networking site that allows its users to create, upload, and share content with other members.

HOW THEY WORK?

Hi5 platform allows users to create a profile and provide personal information, including interests, age, photos, and hometown. Upon creating a profile, users can also send friend requests via e-mail to other users, which comes with an option to accept or decline or even block the user. Friends appear on the user's contact list. As well, the platform allows users to create a customized member profile using images and themes.

HISTORY:

In 2003, Hi5 was founded by Ramu Yalamanchi.

In 2006, Hi5 was the 8th largest social network.

In 2007, Hi5 had become the 2nd largest social network after Myspace.

In 2007, Hi5 raised $20 million in a Series A round from Mohr Davidow Ventures, as well as $15 million in venture debt.

In 2008, Hi5 was reported to be the third most popular social networking site in monthly unique visitors behind Facebook and Myspace by ComScore.

In April 2009, Bill Gossman was appointed as Hi5 CEO.

In early 2010, hi5 acquired social gaming company Big Six.

In 2010, Hi5 raised $3 million convertible note from existing investor Mohr Davidow, totaling the funds to $38 million.

In October 2010, Hi5 introduced Sociopath, to help developers bring their game to the hi5 platform.

In July 2010, Hi5 raised $14 million from Crosslink Capital.

In 2011 Hi5 introduced Sociopay as a companion to Sociopath.

In December 2011, Hi5 assets were acquired by Tagged. The Tagged management team formed magi.com as a pure gaming site, but it was shut down in June 2012.

In 2017, Tagged and hi5 were acquired by The Meet Group for $60 million.
