Picasa was a software application for organizing and digital photo editing.
Picasa used to help users with organizing, viewing, and editing digital photos.
Picasa was a free online photo-sharing tool. Upon downloading the app, it automatically located photos on the user's PC and transferred them to Picasa. The users could then edit photos, compile and organize albums and share photos online from Picasa.
In 2002, Picasa was created by Idealab.
In July 2004, Google Inc. bought Picasa from Idealab.
In June 2006, Picasa was as a free download for the distribution of most of the Linux operating system.
On June 6, 2006, Picasa Web Albums was first leaked, it came with 250MB free space.
On August 15, 2006, Google acquired Neven Vision.
On March 7, 2007, Picasa Web Albums upgraded to 1 GB.
In June 2007, Picasa began writing geographic coordinates to EXIF metadata.
On September 2, 2008, Google launched facial recognition function on Picasa Web Albums.
On January 5, 2009, Google released a beta version of Picasa for the Mac.
Between July 2009 to November 2010, Google introduced Picasa 3.0 Beta for Linux.
In March 2011, Google launched Picasa version 3.8 for Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.
On March 15, 2016, Picasa was discontinued.
