Instagram is a free photo and video sharing social media app available on Apple iOS, Android, and Windows Phone. The app allows users to upload photos or videos to their service and share them with their followers or with a select group of friends.

WHO IS Yelp?

Yelp is an online service that allows users to write reviews, post photos, and share recommendations with friends.

 

WHAT THEY DO?

Yelp gives users a platform to send reviews and recommendations of best restaurants, shopping, nightlife, food, and entertainment. Yelp also develops, hosts, and markets the Yelp.com site and mobile app, which publish crowd-sourced reviews about businesses.

 

HOW THEY WORK?

Basic Yelp for Business is free, but there are paid options if one wishes to access more features. Upon signing in, users can review businesses or view reviews about businesses from other people. Businesses can also respond to reviews through the site.

In July 2004, Yelp was founded by Jeremy Stoppelman and Russel Simmons.

In October 2004, Yelp.com was launched.

In March 2005, Yelp Elite Squad started in San Francisco.

In 2005, Yelp raised $5 million in funding from Bessemer Ventures.

In November 2006, Yelp raised $10 million from Benchmark Capital.

In 2006, the number of reviewers on Yelp grew from 12,000 in 2005, to 100,000.

In May 2007, Yelp hit 1M review user’s milestone.

In 2007, Yelp had 6 million monthly visitors.

In 2008, Yelp had 16.5 million monthly visitors.

In February 2008, Yelp raised $15 million in funding from DAG Ventures.

In July 2008, Yelp iPhone app was launched.

In 2010, Elevation Partners invested $100 million in Yelp; $75 million was spent on buying equity from employees and investors, and the remaining $25 million was invested in sales staff and expansion.

In 2009, Yelp had 4.5 million reviews.

In 2010, Yelp's revenues were estimated to be $30 million.

In June 2010, Yelp opened Scottsdale, AZ office.

In October 2011, Yelp opened New York City office.

In November 2011, Yelp Foundation was created with 1% of company equity to support local communities.

In March 2012, Yelp went public ($YELP).

In July 2012, Yelp opened London office.

In July 2013, Yelp acquired online reservation start-up SeatMe (now known as Yelp Reservations).

In January 2015, Yelp opened Chicago office.

In early February 2015, Yelp acquired Eat24, for $134 million.

In late 2015, a Public Services & Government section was introduced to Yelp.

In March 2016, Yelp hit 100M review milestone.

In April 2016, Yelp launched Request A Quote.

In September 2016, Yelp opened Hamburg office

In March 2017, Yelp acquired restaurant waitlist startup Nowait, now Yelp Waitlist.

In April 2017, Yelp acquired Turnstyle Analytics.

In August 2017, Yelp sold Eat24 to Grubhub for $287.5 million.

In January 2018, Yelp opened Washington D.C. office.

In August 2019, Yelp launched new personalized app experience.
